What are UD Tapes?
UD Tapes (continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic prepreg unidirectional tapes) are the most basic form of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites. As the name suggests, it is made of continuous fibers (glass fiber, carbon fiber, etc.) impregnated with thermoplastic resin. Its most notable feature is that it has only one layer, and all the fibers are arranged in only one direction, which results in its ultra-high tensile strength in one direction, but is very fragile in the other direction.

Composition of UD Tapes
Fiber | Matrix Resin |
Glass fiber. Carbon fiber. Aramid fiber. Polyethylene fiber. PBO fiber. Basalt fiber. | Polypropylene (PP). Polyethylene (PE). Polyamide (PA). Polycarbonate (PC). Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). Polyethyleneimine (PEI). Polyaryl ether ketone (PAEK). Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). Polyether ether ketone (PEEK). Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS). |

Production Process of UD Tapes
The continuous fibers pulled out by the yarn splitting system are mixed with the high-temperature thermoplastic resin extruded from the resin extruder. After heating, impregnation, pressurization, cooling, slitting, rolling and other processes, the fiber and resin are composited into a thermoplastic prepreg unidirectional tape with a thin thickness and smooth surface.

Advantages of UD Tapes
High Strength
Continuous fibers have superior compressive and tensile strength compared to chopped and long fibers, allowing them to provide good load support and structural performance in a variety of applications.
Lightweight
Continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic UD tapes are lighter than thermoset FRP and metal materials, and this lightweight property makes them very attractive in applications where reduced structural weight is required.
Corrosion Resistance
The matrix of the unidirectional tapes is thermoplastic resin, which enables it to work stably for a long time in various harsh environments.
Recyclable
UD tapes comply with the concept of sustainable development. Thermoplastic resins are often recyclable, and they produce less waste and emissions during production, reducing their environmental impact. yes

Basic Technical Requirements for UD Tapes
Surface Quality
There are no obvious defects such as depressions, bulges, cracks, spots, color differences, bubbles, wrinkles, scratches, holes and other obvious defects on the surface of qualified thermoplastic unidirectional tapes.

Packaging Requirements
- Both sides of the tape roll should be neatly trimmed;
- The winding is tight and seamless;
- Use waterproof packaging and place on stable pallets.

Continuous Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Composite Sheets
Multi-layer unidirectional tapes laid at different angles (0°/90°, 45°/45°) can compensate for the tensile strength of a single layer in the other direction. We call it CFRT (Continuous Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic) sheets, which is a new type of FRP sheet that can replace traditional thermosetting FRP sheets. CFRT sheets are not just multi-layered unidirectional tapes. In order to achieve a more ideal application effect, the surface is usually covered with a waterproof decorative film.
