CFRT Sheets - Continuous Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Composite Sheets

What are CFRT Sheets?

CFRT sheets (continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite sheets), which is a multi-layer laminated sheets with thermoplastic unidirectional tapes laid at different angles (0°/90°, 45°/45°). This lamination method can compensates for the tensile strength of a single layer of unidirectional tape in the other direction. Continuous fibers give them strong mechanical properties and replace metal materials in many fields. This new type of glass fiber reinforced sheet can also replace traditional thermosetting FRP sheets. Because of its wide range of uses, stable performance, and high cost performance, CFRT sheets have become the first choice for many industries pursuing lightweight.

Composition of CFRT Sheets

Top Layer:Plastic Film (Optional)

The plastic film is waterproof and corrosion-resistant, and can protect the interior of the CFRT sheet from external impacts and scratches. And it also makes the surface of the sheet smoother and brighter, increasing the aesthetic effect. Usually the protective film is made of PVC, PET, PP, etc.

Middle Layer:UD Tapes

It is the main component of CFRT sheets, consisting of continuous fibers as reinforcing materials and a thermoplastic resin matrix. The materials that can be used as reinforcing fibers mainly include glass fiber, carbon fiber, aramid fiber, ultra-high-strength polyethylene fiber, PBO fiber, basalt fiber, etc. The materials that can be used as matrix resin mainly include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyamide (PA), polycarbonate (PC), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polyethyleneimine (PEI), polyaryl ether ketone (PAEK), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyether ether ketone (PEEK), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), etc.

Bottom Layer: Non-woven Fabric (Optional)

In order to use adhesives to composite CFRT sheets with other materials, the bottom is often covered with a layer of non-woven fabric to reduce the occurrence of problems such as degumming and cracking. (Note: CFRT sheets do not need to add non-woven fabrics during the thermal lamination process)

Advantages of CFRT Sheets over FRP Sheets

As an alternative to FRP sheets, CFRT sheets are not only waterproof, moisture-proof, lightweight and have many other advantages:

High Strength in All Directions

CFRT sheets are laminated from continuous fiber UD tapes at different angles. The advantage of continuous fibers is that they have higher compressive and tensile strength. Its strength is 3 to 5 times that of chopped fiber FRP sheets of the same thickness.

Scratch Resistance

Compared with the fragile gel coat layer on the surface of FRP sheets, general scratches and impacts will not leave marks on the surface of CFRT sheets, so its service life is longer than that of FRP sheets.

More Economical

The manufacturing cost of continuous fiber thermoplastic composite sheets is much lower than that of FRP sheets, and its maintenance costs are also much lower than the latter.

Our Product Features

Anti-UV

Carbon black particles can be added according to customer needs to reduce the light transmittance of CFRT sheets.

Smoother

Most of the CFRT sheets currently on the market are uneven, but our products can achieve smoothness with a high-gloss effect.

Higher Purity

100% pure thermoplastic resins and fibers are thermoplastic composited in fully enclosed equipment.

Types of CFRT Sheets

Application Areas

Through combination with other materials or secondary molding, continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite sheets are widely used in aviation, automobiles, trucks, construction, shipbuilding, public transportation and sporting goods. Bringing lightweight changes to these industries.

Box Trucks

Box truck bodies with CFRT facing are lighter in weight and higher in strength. It is widely used in refrigerated trucks and dry cargo trucks.

Sports Products

Pickleball rackets, skateboards, helmets, bicycles, etc.

Constructions

CFRT helps improve the service life and safety of constructions.

Aviation

Thermoplastic composites reduce aircraft weight and increase structural strength.

Automobiles

Thermoplastic composite materials are widely used in structural and semi-structural parts such as automobile anti-collision beams, instrument panels, battery boxes, seat frame panels, spare tire compartments, and car bottom guards.

Shipbuilding

Boat parts made from thermoplastic materials are both lightweight and resistant to seawater corrosion.

Continuous Fiber Thermoplastic Composite Panels

CFRT sheet is a good skin material for lightweight composite panels. It can be composited with various core material systems (such as foam core, honeycomb core, etc.) through thermal lamination or adhesive. These composite panels are widely used in the building of various boxes, such as RVs, trailers, refrigerated trucks, cold rooms, dry cargo trucks, etc.
