Unlike refrigerated trucks, dry freight trucks do not need to have thermal insulation properties, but mainly consider their own strength and lightweight body. Therefore, we abandoned the traditional all-metal dry freight truck box structure and switched to lighter and lower-cost thermoplastic PP honeycomb panels.

Application of Thermoplastic Honeycomb Panels in Dry Freight Trucks

Thermoplastic polypropylene honeycomb panels are a widely accepted new lightweight composite material. Since its invention, it has attracted the attention of various industries. It is made of thermoplastic skin material – CFRT (continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic) sheet and thermoplastic core material – PP (polypropylene) honeycomb through thermal lamination.

Wall Panels & Roof Panels

We use matt/high-gloss thermoplastic honeycomb panels for the wall and roof panels of our dry freight truck boxes. The skin is made of continuous fiberglass thermoplastic (CFRT), and the middle layer is a polypropylene honeycomb core, which is processed by hot-melt lamination. You can also choose surface treatments such as matte or high-gloss depending on your specific needs. These decorative films not only make the car body more aesthetic, but also play a waterproof role.

Floors

For the floor of the dry freight truck box, we specially customized non-slip thermoplastic honeycomb panels to replace traditional wooden floors and aluminum alloy floors. The anti-slip thermoplastic honeycomb panel combines the lightweight impact resistance of the honeycomb core material and the dense anti-slip texture of the CFRT surface, which has a better anti-slip effect.

Compared to Plywood Panels

  • Not Easily Corroded:Plywood with wooden structure has the fatal disadvantage of not being waterproof. The dry freight truck box made of it is prone to moisture and rot inside. Thermoplastic honeycomb panels are made of fiberglass and resin materials and will not be corroded by water and general chemicals.
  • Flame-retardant:Wooden dry freight truck boxes also have a big safety hazard: they are flammable and not fire-proof. Thermoplastic honeycomb panels with a B2 flame retardant rating can better avoid this problem.
  • Higher Strength:Unlike plywood where ordinary boards are superimposed and bonded, thermoplastic honeycomb panels do not use glue and have a more stable structure and high strength and impact resistance. In contrast, the manufactured dry freight truck box can have a greater upper limit of load-bearing capacity.
  • Longer Service Life:Dry freight truck boxes made of thermoplastic honeycomb panels are lighter, more stable, have better performance and longer service life.
